Why your state matters
Therapists can only provide therapy to people who are physically located in a state where they hold a license. That is why each state above has its own page and its own clinicians: the person you meet with must be licensed where you are during your session. If you travel or move, tell your therapist early so you can plan for continuity of care.
What online sessions are like
Sessions happen by secure video from a private space you choose. You can start with a free 15-minute consultation to see whether a clinician feels like a fit, and our booking guide walks through the steps. Not sure how to choose? Read our guide to finding a therapist, or browse the therapist directory by specialty, approach and availability.
Cost and insurance
Insurance participation varies by clinician, plan and state. Several of our North Carolina clinicians are in network with major plans, and clients in every state can use self-pay, sliding-scale spots when available, or out-of-network benefits with a superbill. Our article on using insurance for counseling explains the basics, and each state page has the details.
If you need help right now
Online therapy is not an emergency service. If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
