Trauma is what happens inside you after overwhelming experiences, and it can show up as anxiety, flashbacks, numbness, shame or trouble trusting. It can come from a single event or from years of hurt, including religious, relational or childhood trauma.

Trauma-informed care shapes everything we do: choice, safety and pacing come first. Our clinicians use approaches such as EMDR and other evidence-based methods, and take the time to build stability before processing. Read Under the Veil: Layers of Religious Trauma for one example.

Common questions

What is trauma-informed therapy?

It means understanding how trauma affects people and designing care around safety, choice and trust. You control the pace, and your clinician does not push you to relive things before you are ready.

Do I have to talk about what happened?

Not necessarily. Some approaches, such as EMDR and somatic work, do not require detailed retelling, and you can share as much as feels right.
