You do not have to use insurance to start therapy. Self-pay, sometimes called private pay, means paying your therapist directly rather than billing a health insurance plan.

Clients choose self-pay for different reasons. Your preferred therapist may not participate with your insurance, you may not have applicable mental health benefits, or you may simply prefer to pay directly for your care. Whatever the reason, the goal is the same: finding therapy that works for you.

Self-pay rates can vary by clinician and service at Origins Counseling & Wellness. Review the current information on your therapist's profile or contact Origins before scheduling so you understand the fee for your care. If cost is a concern, you can also explore whether a clinician offers a sliding scale or whether your insurance includes out-of-network benefits.

Common questions

What does self-pay mean for therapy?

Self-pay means you pay directly for your therapy sessions instead of having Origins bill an insurance plan for that care. You may also hear this called private-pay therapy.

Can I see an Origins therapist without using insurance?

Yes. Self-pay may be an option even if you have insurance. Clients may choose it because their preferred therapist is not in network, their plan does not cover a service, or they prefer to pay directly. Check the therapist's current fee information before scheduling.

How much does self-pay therapy cost at Origins?

Self-pay rates can vary by clinician and type of service. Check the therapist's profile or contact Origins for current pricing. If the standard fee is difficult for you, you can also ask whether sliding scale availability or out-of-network reimbursement may apply to your situation.
