Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or ACT, teaches that struggling against painful thoughts and feelings often makes them louder. Instead, you learn to notice them, make room for them and keep moving toward what matters to you.

In ACT sessions you clarify your values, practice mindfulness and unhook from unhelpful thoughts. It is used for anxiety, depression, chronic stress and life transitions, and pairs well with trauma-informed care.

Common questions

What is ACT therapy?

ACT is an evidence-based approach that combines acceptance and mindfulness skills with values-based action. The goal is a rich, meaningful life, not the absence of difficult feelings.

What can I expect in an ACT session?

Expect conversation about what matters to you, exercises for noticing thoughts and feelings, and small commitments to try between sessions.
